Special categories

Employment permits and the corresponding type-B work permits can be granted in the special cases below. The employer must submit specific documents in each case.

who come to Belgium to follow training lasting at least three calendar months at the Belgian office of a multinational to which their employer belongs, under a training contract between the offices of this multinational.

  • Workers who are:
    • either nationals of a non-European Economic Space member state employed by an employer registered outside the European Economic Space;
    • or nationals of a non-signatory state to the Convention of 14 December 1960 on the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development,

Forms for special categories:

For each special category, there is a list of documents you must enclose with your permit application (see downloads above). The following forms are also required. You must also enclose them with your application for submission to the Ministry of the Brussels-Capital Region:

  • PDF Permit application (.pdf) (FR) to employ a foreign national, when the employer is established in Belgium (Note: this form should not be used if a special application form exists, such as for technicians and au pairs. This is explained in the "Required application documents" for each category.)
  • PDFPermit application (.pdf) (FR) to employ a posted foreign national, when the employer is established abroad (Note: this form should not be used if a special application form exists, such as for technicians and au pairs. This is explained in the "Required application documents" for each category.)
  • PDF Information sheet for foreign nationals wishing to apply for a type-B work permit (.pdf) (FR), signed by the mayor of the commune in which the applicant resides (Note: only if the foreign national already has a residence permit for Belgium. This is explained in the "Required application documents" for each category.)
  • PDF Medical certificate for a foreign national (FR) issued by a doctor approved by the Belgian embassy in the foreign national's home country (Note: only for foreign nationals hired for the first time who cannot prove they have lived legally in Belgium for two years. This is explained in the "Required application documents" for each category.)
