Brussels wins Regional Innovation Award

The Brussels Regional Program for Circular Economy (BRPCE) received the "Regional Innovation Award 2016". This award puts Brussels at the top of European policy in the field of circular economy.

The award for regional innovation is organized by the Assembly of European Regions (AER) and distinguishes the European regional authorities and their partners who stimulate, promote and implement innovation. The prize encourages best practices by showing how regions can contribute to regional economic welfare.

The circular economy aims to drastically reduce the waste of resources while reducing the impact on our environment and increasing prosperity.

Brussels played its trump card by adopting the Regional Program for Circular Economy as early as March 2016. This program consists of 111 measures that provide Brussels and its population with the necessary means to accelerate the transition from "to mine-produce-consume-throw away" to "repair-produce-consume-reuse".

Food analyses

Laboratory assistant analyzing food

Support for the agricultural and food sector

organic market
Brussels Economy and Employment shapes the agricultural policy by preparing and executing the legislation with regard to the agricultural and food sector, among other things for organic agriculture. This makes it possible to make the organic operators aware of that policy.
To defend the interests of this sector, Brussels Economy and Employment also takes part in the consultations with the two other regions and with the federal authorities. In addition, Brussels Economy and Employment is also a partner in the European "School Milk" and "School Fruit & Vegetables" programmes, which concern a subsidy that is co-financed by the Brussels Capital Region..

"School Fruit and Vegetables" Programme

Fruit and vegetables at school
The "School Fruit & Vegetables" programme is a European Union initiative to familiarise children with vegetables and fruit and to teach them about agricultural products. The Brussels Capital Region co-finances this initiative so as to contribute to healthy eating patterns for children.
This year, 78 schools and 7,091 students took part in this programme through Brussels Economy and Employment.

Support for “School Milk”

The Euopean "School Milk" programme promotes the consumption of dairy products. Under this promotion scheme, schools can apply for a subsidy for certain dairy products.
Thanks to the co-financing provided by the Brussels Capital Region, the European support is doubled.
Since 1 September 2013, organic products get extra support.
This year, 146 schools have signed up for this through Brussels Economy and Employment.

Call for projects with regard to the equipment of technical schools

technical equipement
42 technical and professional schools in the Brussels Capital Region, who organise trainings in the field of technological industry, creative industry and construction/renovation, were invited to send in projects with a view to acquire high-technology equipment. With this quality material, the schools will be able to offer their students a better education, so that they will have more to offer on the labour market.
The schools had until 30 September to submit their file, and they could receive full financing for a project costing from 30,000 to 100,000 euros.
For this action, 54 projects were submitted for a total amount of 2,800,000 €. An expert jury made a selection, for an amount of 800,000 €. The chosen files will be approved by the Brussels Capital Government in November 2013.
