Travel agencies

Before conducting any activity in the Brussels-Capital Region, a travel agency must either obtain an authorisation from Brussels Economy and Employment or submit a declaration.

The regulations concern any operation of a travel agency in the territory of the Brussels-Capital Region, but also any temporary and occasional activity of a travel agency in this territory. Applications must be submitted to Brussels Economy and Employment before any activity is conducted in the territory of the Region.

What must a travel agency do to operate permanently in the Brussels-Capital Region?

  • Do you want to open a parent company in the Brussels-Capital Region?
You must first obtain authorisation.

  • Do you have a parent company authorised in the Walloon Region, the Flemish Region or another Member State of the European Union, and do you want to open a branch in the Brussels-Capital Region?

  • Do you have a parent company authorised in the Brussels-Capital Region, and do you want to open a new branch there?
You need not request authorisation. It is sufficient to send a notification.

By 1 July each year, authorised travel agencies must send to the Brussels Economy and Employment the number of employees working in the main office and in the branches of the company established in the territory of the Brussels-Capital Region.
                                               
In the event of a change that affects an item in the authorisation request or a document that accompanies it, the travel agency must report this change to the Administration by registered letter within a period of 1 month following occurrence of the event.

What must a travel agency do to operate temporarily and occasionally in the Brussels-Capital Region?

Do you have an agency in the Walloon Region, the Flemish Region or another Member State of the European Union, and want to participate in a Show in the Region Brussels-Capital?

Any travel agency legally established in a Member State of the European Union can perform temporary and occasional services in the territory of the Brussels-Capital Region, on condition that it submits a prior declaration to conduct temporary activity to Brussels Economy and Employment.
